Knowing what questions to ask a contractor before hiring, can make all the difference in the outcome of your project.

1) Do They Have A License And Insurance? A contractor without the proper license or insurance can put you at a risk financially. You could be responsible for the cost of accidents that occur on your site.

2) What Is Their Background And Experience? Ask how long they have been in business as well as how many projects similar to yours they have completed. Time in the business doesn't always equal experience.

3) Can They Provide A List Of Past Referrals? Any good contractor will be happy to let their work speak for them. Ask for reviews, referrals, and testimonials

4) Who Will Obtain Permits? Having an experienced professional handle the permit process and scheduling inspections will allow the job to run more smoothly.

5) What Is The Estimated Timeline Of Completion And Milestone Schedule? Your contractor should be able to give you a good estimate of your projects timeline, and milestones allow you to know if the project is on track.

6) How Will Payment Work? Once the price is agreed upon, ask about the payment schedule. If its a large project, payments should be tied to milestones with the final payment upon completion. 7) Who Will Clean Up? BE SPECIFIC... at the end of the day or at the end of the project?

8) Is There A Warranty For The Services And/Or Materials Involved?

9) What Steps Will Be Taken To Protect My Property? You can relocate breakables, but make sure to ask who is responsible for tarping furniture or restoring grass if machinery is brought in
