My Flog, which is a Blog whenever I Feel like doing it.

Driving pet peeve…

Just because you are in the Fast Lane (The Left lane known as the passing lane) and going 110 km per hour does not mean that you are going fast or the speed of traffic. I’ll get into my theory of how each lane of a 3 lane highway is similar to the Upper class, Middle class and Lower class of our economy, but that is for another day and time.

I know people that admittedly have driven in the fast lane and have tuned themselves out of what is going on around them…specifically behind them. They passed somebody, were going above the speed limit and just got comfortable.I get it. We lose our train of thought and where we are.

When I was learning how to drive the Young Drivers of Canada instructor said to go the speed limit or the flow of traffic. Now, he didn’t mean follow that psycho going 145 on the Queen E, but you get the gist. I just can’t stand how a driver going 110 km/hr does not realize that they are actually slowing the speed and flow of traffic. People are trying to get by you and want you to move in the middle lane, but because you are going over the speed limit it entitles you to remain there and you are doing nothing wrong!

I don’t live in Toronto and I use the HOV lane as much as I can so most of this won’t apply based simply on volume, but I am talking about relieving traffic congestion with a few pointers. If you are going to use the fast lane, either stay in it at a fair speed and check your rear view mirror or get the heck out. As for rubber neckers, especially those watching accidents on the other side of the highway, you have nothing else to do in your lives so congratulations.

I am also not a huge fan of the rules that you have to get out of the slow lane if there is “activity” going on on the shoulder. Ambulances, yes, but policemen ticketing people etc. that turns into a danger zone rather quick. What is the rule while driving with vehicles on the shoulder?

Anyways, for those in the fast lane, keep your head up, check your rear and if you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen.
