When people ask me why I chose real estate, the answer is actually deeply personal and it has taken me some time to get used to sharing the feelings that go along with it. It wasn’t just about my love for browsing homes on realtor.ca or my constant curiosity about the real estate market. It was about a major turning point in my life that made me realize I needed to pursue what truly made me happy.
In 2019, my family lost my mom to pancreatic cancer. It was a devastating time full of challenges and uncertainty and her passing left me grappling with a profound sense of loss, even to this day I have a hard time talking about her without shedding a small tear. My mom was my rock, she always had the answers for me even if she wasn't always right), and losing her forced me to take a hard look at my life.
I began to reflect on how fleeting and unpredictable life can be, and I realized that I had been living in a way that felt more like fulfilling expectations than actually doing what made me happy.
Before becoming a realtor, I spent 15 years working as a clerk in a multidisciplinary law firm in Burlington. It was a career that made sense on paper—I was organized, detail-oriented, and I loved problem-solving. But deep down, I knew it wasn’t where my heart was - don't get me wrong, I LOVED my time working in that industry, but, I had always been drawn to something more. Dealing with my mom’s passing and all that came with it gave me the courage to step outside my comfort zone and make a change.
Real estate felt like the perfect fit for me. It combined my love of houses, my passion for helping people, and the opportunity to work on my own terms. So, in March 2023, I made the leap.
This shift hasn’t been without challenges, but every step has felt like it brought me closer to where I’m meant to be. Real estate has allowed me to connect with incredible people, help families find their perfect homes, and explore new ways to grow both professionally and personally.
Losing my mom taught me the importance of living fully and pursuing what sets your soul on fire. For me, that’s building relationships, helping others navigate the world of real estate, and finding joy in the everyday moments—whether it’s walking my dogs, spending time with my family, or celebrating a client’s successful home sale.
If you’re considering a major life change, I hope my story inspires you to follow your heart. It’s not always easy, but it’s worth it!
